Accident Overview
A Cessna 340A experienced a dual engine failure while in flight. The aircraft subsequently attempted a forced landing at Stockton Airport but landed short of the runway. The incident involved the owner/pilot and an instructor.
Preflight Activities
According to the owner/pilot, a ground demonstration of the fuel cross-feed system was performed before departure. After this demonstration, neither the pilot nor the instructor repositioned the fuel selector. The pilot reported that a checklist had been used during preflight procedures.
In-Flight Engine Failure
During the flight, both engines failed. The crew initiated a forced landing procedure directed at Stockton Airport.
