Incident Overview
The pilot of an Engineering Research 415-C aircraft experienced an engine failure while in cruise flight. According to the pilot's report, the fuel sight gauge on the fuselage fuel tank indicated a more rapid decrease in fuel level than typical.
Pilot Actions
Upon noticing the unusual fuel gauge behavior, the pilot initiated a descent toward Madera, California, intending to land there. However, before reaching the airport, the engine ceased operation, and the pilot was unable to complete the landing at the intended destination.
Investigation Findings
Post-incident examination determined that the vent line on the right fuel tank was blocked. Additionally, an unquantified amount of fuel remained in the left fuel tank at the time of the incident.
