Accident Overview
A pilot and three passengers were conducting a takeoff from Runway 35R, which has an elevation of 5,883 feet above mean sea level. According to the pilot, each time he attempted to rotate the aircraft for takeoff, the stall warning horn activated. The engine power attained during the takeoff roll was between 2,400 and 2,500 revolutions per minute (RPM) with a manifold pressure of 23 to 24 inches of mercury. For reference, at sea level, the maximum available power is 2,700 RPM and 29.6 inches of mercury. The aircraft eventually lifted off but subsequently crashed approximately one-quarter mile north of the departure end of the 10,000-foot runway.
