Accident Details
The accident occurred during the takeoff phase. After becoming airborne, the airplane climbed to approximately 125 feet above the runway surface. At that point, the engine began to lose power. According to the pilot, the engine rpm dropped to 1500. The pilot noted that carburetor icing conditions were present, with melting snow on the ground and an outside air temperature of 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
Pilot Actions
Upon noticing the power loss, the pilot established a glide and applied carburetor heat. The airplane continued to sink at an increasing rate. The pilot then extended the flaps, closed the throttle, and executed a full stall landing into the tops of trees.
Post-Accident Inspection
A post-accident engine run-up was performed, but no mechanical discrepancy was found. The engine operated normally during the test.
