Flight Narrative
The airplane was purchased in Northampton and was being ferried to its new home base in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. According to the pilot, about four hours after takeoff—as indicated by the Hobbs meter and tachometer—the fuel pressure gauge began fluctuating while nearing Martinsburg, an intermediate stop. The pilot activated the electric fuel boost pump but could not recall subsequent details. One passenger, who held a private pilot certificate and occupied the left front seat, reported that he flew the airplane for most of the trip. He stated that they had made an earlier stop at another airport en route, but no services were available, so the flight continued. As Martinsburg came into sight, the fuel pressure dropped to zero and the engine began losing power. The pilot then took control, but attempts to restore engine power were unsuccessful.
Investigation Findings
Examination of the airplane after the incident revealed that the fuel tanks were empty. No evidence of a fuel spill was found at the site. The investigation noted that the passengers held private pilot certificates, though the total number of occupants was not specified. No other mechanical anomalies were identified.
