Accident Overview
According to the ranch caretaker, the aircraft arrived over the property and performed two low passes to attract his attention so that he could meet the aircraft. At the end of the second low pass, the engine ceased operating and the aircraft impacted the ground in an open field.
Post-Accident Examination
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspectors examined the aircraft and reported that the landing gear and flaps were in the retracted position. Both magnetos produced sparks when rotated by hand. The fuel selector was found in the right main tank position. Approximately 2 gallons of fuel were present in the right main fuel tank. The fuel flow divider and the associated fuel lines contained no fuel. The inspection of the aircraft did not reveal any other evidence of a mechanical malfunction or failure of the engine. The left main fuel tank was found to contain fuel.
