Overview
An agricultural airplane experienced a loss of engine power while conducting spraying operations, leading to a collision with trees and a subsequent crash in an adjacent field.
Incident Details
According to the pilot, approximately 40 gallons of fuel were on board when the airplane departed from a private airstrip. About 35 minutes into the spraying operation, the engine lost power during a swath run. The airplane then collided with trees estimated to be between 50 and 75 feet tall located on the departure end of the field. After striking the trees, the airplane crashed in an adjacent field approximately 500 feet beyond the trees.
Post-Crash Examination
A post-crash examination of the airplane was conducted. The examination failed to reveal any preimpact mechanical problems. Additionally, a substantial amount of fuel was found in the damaged fuel system.
