What happened
The flight was proceeding under instrument flight rules when the pilot received clearance for an approach. Shortly after this clearance, the engine experienced a sudden loss of power. With propulsion no longer available, the pilot initiated an emergency landing procedure.
During the descent and final approach phase, the aircraft collided with a tree. The impact caused significant structural damage, specifically resulting in the loss of part of the right wing. Despite the severe damage to the airframe, the aircraft managed to slide to a stop on the ground.
The investigation
Following the accident, investigators conducted a post-accident examination of the aircraft to determine the mechanical cause of the engine failure. The inspection focused on the fuel system components to identify any obstructions or contaminants that might have interrupted fuel flow.
The examination revealed the presence of water within the flow divider. At the time of the incident, this water had frozen, effectively blocking the fuel passage and causing the engine to stop producing power.
