A FACTOR WAS THE CROSSWIND CONDITIONS AT THE AIRPORT. This summary draws on records from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) historical archive.
A private pilot on short final crosswind was blown off course, corrected, then after touchdown attempted a go-around. The crosswind lifted the right wing, the left wing hit the ground, and the airplane spun into an embankment.
Sequence of Events
The private pilot was preparing to land following a cross-country flight. While on short final approach, crosswind conditions blew the airplane slightly off course, and the pilot made a correction. After touchdown, the crosswind again blew the airplane off course, prompting the pilot to attempt a go-around.
During the go-around, the crosswind lifted the right wing, causing the left wing to contact the ground. The airplane then spun around and impacted an embankment.
Post-Accident Information
The pilot reported no mechanical problems with the airplane prior to the accident.
