Incident Overview
A pilot landed an airplane on a beach near a set net site with the intent to discuss hauling fish from the beach. During the landing roll, the airplane's tailwheel hooked a fish net anchor rope. The rope was gray, the same color as the beach sand, making it difficult to see.
Sequence of Events
As the airplane decelerated rapidly after the tailwheel caught the rope, the rope broke. The pilot subsequently lost control of the airplane, which then ground looped on the beach. The ground loop resulted in damage to the right wing, aileron, and right stabilizer.
Damage Assessment
The airplane sustained damage to its right wing, aileron, and right stabilizer. No other damage was reported.
