Incident Description
Shortly after takeoff, the pilot reported that the engine began to run rough. Believing the problem to be related to the ignition system, he attempted to verify and isolate the issue. During this process, when the magneto switch was moved from the BOTH to the LEFT position, the engine lost power completely.
Pilot Actions
The pilot made several attempts to restart the engine, but they were unsuccessful. Consequently, he executed a forced landing in a corn field.
Post-Accident Examination
An examination of the aircraft after the accident revealed a cracked cylinder installed at the number 9 position. No evidence of other pre-impact malfunctions was found.
