What happened
The accident occurred during the initial phase of flight on a rural roadway. The pilot was attempting to initiate a takeoff roll from a county road that measured approximately 35 feet in width. The surface of the road was described as rough, which likely contributed to the handling difficulties.
As the aircraft accelerated down the narrow path, the pilot was unable to maintain the necessary heading. Directional control was lost during this critical phase of the operation. Unable to correct the deviation from the runway centerline, the airplane veered off the paved surface and impacted a ditch adjacent to the road.
