Incident Sequence
The accident began with a normal takeoff. Following departure, the pilot initiated a climb at a rate steeper than typical. During this climb, the pilot heard a backfire from the engine. In response, the pilot rapidly closed the throttle without simultaneously lowering the aircraft's nose to maintain airspeed.
Stall and Impact
With the throttle closed and the nose elevated, the airplane entered a power-off stall. The pilot immediately applied power, and the engine responded normally. However, the recovery action was initiated too late to prevent the aircraft from impacting the runway in a flat attitude. The airplane struck the runway surface in a level orientation.
Damage and Injuries
The impact resulted in substantial damage to the airplane. The pilot, the sole occupant, sustained serious injuries.
