Accident Overview
A pilot conducting a water takeoff at a remote location experienced a loss of control after a second liftoff, resulting in the aircraft cartwheeling into the water. The pilot had previously overflown the landing area and observed that high gusting winds were subsiding, deeming the area suitable for operations.
Sequence of Events
After overflying the water landing area and noting that gusty winds were decreasing, the pilot landed and loaded one passenger and 225 pounds of cargo. Following loading, the pilot attempted a water takeoff. During the initial liftoff, gusts forced the aircraft back onto the water. Despite this, the pilot elected to continue the takeoff run. The aircraft became airborne a second time, but at an altitude of approximately 30 feet, the pilot lost control, and the aircraft cartwheeled into the water.
