Discovery
The aircraft involved in this accident was missing for a period of ten months prior to its discovery. When located, the airplane was found destroyed as a result of the impact with terrain and a post-crash fire. The investigation did not identify any witnesses to the accident event.
Pilot Advisories
The pilot was a private pilot who did not hold an instrument rating. Prior to departure, flight service station personnel advised the pilot on two separate occasions that VFR flight was not recommended for his planned route. The advisories were given to the pilot, but the pilot nonetheless undertook the flight.
Wreckage Examination
A thorough examination of the wreckage was conducted. No evidence was found indicating any preimpact failure of the aircraft's airframe or powerplant assembly. The structural and engine components appeared intact prior to striking the ground.
The investigation did not provide a probable cause for the accident in its findings.
