Landing and Nose-Over
According to the pilot/operator accident report, the pilot executed a normal three-point landing. Shortly after touchdown, during the landing roll, the airplane nosed over onto its back.
Pilot Accounts
In the written report, the pilot stated that he felt the main wheels dragging after touchdown and that he did not apply the brakes before the airplane nosed over. However, in a separate conversation with the responding police officer, the pilot said that the wheels locked up when he applied the brakes.
Examination and Observations
The responding police officer reported that the aircraft's tires showed no evidence of skidding or patching signatures. After the airplane was righted, it rolled normally on its main wheels. An examination of the brake system disclosed no evidence of any preexisting malfunctions or failures.
