Accident Sequence
During the takeoff run, the airplane abruptly swerved to the left. The pilot was unable to regain control or realign the aircraft with the runway centerline. The airplane subsequently departed the runway and collided with a Visual Approach Slope Indicator (VASI).
Pilot Report
The pilot stated that he believed the airplane's left brake had momentarily locked up during the takeoff roll, causing the sudden swerve. He reported that he was unable to correct the deviation despite his efforts.
Examination
A post-accident examination of the airplane's brakes and flight controls was conducted. The examination found no evidence of any mechanical problems or malfunctions. The braking system and flight control surfaces were determined to be in normal operating condition.
The investigation did not identify any contributory factors or determine a probable cause for the event.
