Accident Details
According to the pilot, gusty wind conditions prompted a higher than normal approach speed. When the pilot decided to execute a missed approach with approximately 1300 feet of runway remaining, he retracted the flaps and added full power. The pilot reported that upon application of full power, the engine backfired, and the aircraft subsequently struck 80-foot trees off the end of the runway.

Post-Accident Examination
Examination of the aircraft revealed that the flaps were in the full down position. Additionally, the propeller exhibited cordwise scratching and twisting toward low pitch.
