What happened
The incident occurred while an amphibious airplane was attempting to depart from a body of water. During the initial phase of the takeoff roll, the pilot perceived that the engine was not generating adequate thrust to continue the departure. Acting on this assessment, the pilot decided to abort the maneuver.
During the aborted takeoff attempt, the aircraft departed the water surface and impacted a grassy mound. The force of the collision brought the airplane to a halt. Following the stop, the pilot conducted an immediate inspection of the cockpit controls and discovered that the throttle was positioned in the fully open setting, indicating that engine power should have been at maximum.
