Incident Details
During cruise flight, the aircraft experienced a total loss of engine power. The pilot initiated a forced landing at a nearby airport. While approaching runway 03, the pilot extended the landing pattern to accommodate a glider in tow that was also in the pattern.
Landing and Damage
The aircraft touched down approximately 100 feet short of the runway threshold, coming to rest on the runway identification numbers. Examination of the aircraft after the event revealed upward crushing of the underside of the fuselage. The flaps were found in the retracted position, and the landing gear were within their respective wheel wells.
Post-Crash Examination
A post-crash examination of the aircraft's fuel system disclosed that the roll pin, which engages the fuel selector handle to the fuel selector valve shaft, was absent. The handle was observed to rotate freely on the valve shaft.
