What happened
The pilot of an agricultural airplane experienced a sudden loss of engine power while the aircraft was on its initial takeoff climb. With limited airspeed and altitude remaining, the pilot determined that continuing the flight was not feasible. Consequently, the pilot elected to land straight ahead in an open wheat field located near the departure point.
Upon touchdown, the main landing gear tires dug into the soft ground of the field. This interaction caused the nose of the airplane to pitch down abruptly, resulting in a nosed-over attitude. The aircraft came to rest in an inverted position after the impact and subsequent movement across the terrain.
The investigation
Following the accident, a detailed examination of the engine and its associated components was conducted to determine the root cause of the power loss.
