Incident Overview
An aircraft lost engine power in both engines due to fuel exhaustion approximately 25 miles southwest of the New Orleans VORTAC (MSY). The pilot aligned the airplane with a road for an emergency landing. Upon determining that he was landing downwind and that the road was coming to an end, he turned the aircraft towards an open field.
Landing and Collision
During the landing roll, the airplane struck a telephone pole and subsequently came to rest in a canal. The pilot had made multiple stops along the route of flight, and there is no evidence that he refueled at any of those stops.
