Accident Description
During the landing roll following touchdown, the right main landing gear brake locked up. This caused the airplane to veer off the right side of the runway. Subsequently, the left main landing gear collapsed after it contacted soft sand adjacent to the runway.
Examination Findings
Immediately after the accident, an FAA airworthiness inspector examined the brake assembly and found that the right brake assembly was binding. The brake assembly was then removed from the airplane for further examination. This examination revealed no evidence of preimpact failure or malfunction. Despite the initial binding observed, no determination could be made as to the reason for the right brake to lock up during the landing roll.
