Incident Overview
During the takeoff roll, the pilot experienced a sudden jerk in the flight controls. In response, the pilot decided to abort the takeoff procedure after the airplane had already become airborne. According to the pilot, control of the aircraft was maintained until the airplane entered a left turn at a speed of 40 mph.
Sequence of Events
The aircraft subsequently touched down off the left side of the runway. After touchdown, it continued rolling off the departure end of the runway and through the airport perimeter fence before coming to a stop.
Post-Incident Examination
A post-incident examination of the airplane failed to disclose any mechanical problem that would explain the initial jerk in the flight controls or the subsequent loss of directional control.
