Event Summary
While approaching Runway 4, the pilot experienced a partial loss of engine power during climb for undetermined reasons. In response, the pilot lowered the landing gear, extended flaps to 10 degrees, and closed the mixture and throttle controls. During the landing flare and touchdown, the airplane contacted the ground to the left of the runway as the pilot was attempting to align the aircraft with the 200-foot-wide runway.
Damage
The accident resulted in damage to the engine, propeller, fuselage, and right wing.
Post-Accident Examination
Following the accident, an examination of the engine was conducted by a representative of the engine manufacturer, with the approval of the aircraft owner. The examination did not reveal any anomalies that would have contributed to the loss of engine power.
