Accident Overview
A certified flight instructor (CFI) was providing dual instruction in pinnacle approaches to a practice area plateau at 2,500 feet mean sea level (MSL). The first approach resulted in a go-around.
Sequence of Events
During the second approach, approximately halfway through, the sight picture steepened, prompting the CFI to assist on the controls to regain the proper angle. According to the CFI, within seconds it became apparent that the wind had reversed direction and was now behind the helicopter, which was settling with power.
