Overview
PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines, commonly known as Merpati, was an airline based in Central Jakarta, Jakarta, Indonesia. It operated scheduled domestic services to more than 25 destinations within Indonesia, as well as scheduled international flights to East Timor and Malaysia. The airline's main base was at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta.
Name
The word "merpati" is Indonesian for "dove", while "Nusantara" is a Javanese term found in the Pararaton meaning "the outer islands", referring to the Indonesian archipelago.
Operations
Merpati provided scheduled passenger and cargo services. Its route network covered numerous cities across the Indonesian archipelago and extended to neighboring countries.
Facilities
The airline maintained a maintenance and simulator facility at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya. The Merpati Training Centre in Surabaya housed full motion simulators for the Fokker F-27, AVIC MA60, and CN-235 aircraft.
