What happened
On April 13, 2010, Merpati Nusantara Airlines Flight 836 was operating a scheduled domestic route connecting Sorong to Manokwari in Indonesia. The flight was conducted using a Boeing 737-300 aircraft. Upon approaching Rendani Airport, the aircraft failed to stop within the available runway distance during its landing sequence.
As the plane overran the paved surface, it suffered catastrophic structural failure. The fuselage fractured completely, breaking into three distinct sections. Despite the severity of the impact and the destruction of the airframe, emergency evacuation procedures were executed successfully. All 110 individuals on board, including crew members and passengers, managed to exit the wreckage. However, the incident resulted in injuries for 44 of those aboard.
