Departure Preparation
The pilot was departing a remote off-airport landing area in a ski-equipped airplane on a personal cross-country flight at the conclusion of a hunting trip. To prepare the takeoff area, the pilot used snow shoes and the aircraft's skis to pack the snow. Additionally, he cut several trees approximately 800 to 1,000 feet from the departure point to clear a departure path.
Takeoff Attempt
During the takeoff run, the right ski dug into soft snow, which slowed the airplane and extended the takeoff run. Despite the reduced acceleration, the aircraft became airborne.
Accident Sequence
After lift-off, the aircraft was unable to climb above additional trees present at the end of the departure area. The subsequent impact with the trees concluded the flight.
