Incident Overview
The right main landing gear of an aircraft collapsed for the second time within a 21-day period. The collapse occurred after only 7.7 hours of flight time since the most recent repair. The landing gear had been inspected multiple times since the last annual inspection, and numerous discrepancies in the gear system were reported to mechanics and owners/operators.
Post-Accident Examination
Following the accident, a technical representative from the manufacturer examined the landing gear system. The examination revealed "extreme" wear in the system components.
Maintenance History
A review of the maintenance records indicated that during multiple landing gear checks, no bushings in the right main landing gear assembly had been replaced. Additionally, a Cessna service letter concerning the main landing gear side brace had not been accomplished.
Findings
The combination of extreme wear, lack of bushing replacement, and the unaccomplished service letter were noted in the investigation.
