Incident Overview
A pilot engaged in aerial advertising operations reported that shortly after picking up a banner, the aircraft experienced difficulties maintaining flight. The incident occurred when the aircraft, which had been towing a banner, encountered performance issues after reaching an altitude of 300 feet.
Sequence of Events
According to the pilot's account, after successfully retrieving the advertising banner, the aircraft climbed to 300 feet above ground level. At that point, the aircraft ceased climbing and the airspeed began to decrease. In response, the pilot increased engine power, but this action did not halt the loss of airspeed; instead, the airspeed continued to drop and the aircraft started to descend. The pilot then lowered the aircraft's nose and released the banner in an attempt to regain performance. However, the aircraft still could not maintain altitude. Consequently, the pilot executed a forced landing in a soft field. During the landing, the aircraft nosed over.
Postcrash Examination
Following the incident, a detailed examination of the engine, its accessories, and the propeller was conducted. The inspection revealed no evidence of any mechanical failure or malfunction that occurred before the crash. All components were found to be within normal operating parameters, with no signs of pre-impact defects.
