Accident Summary
A pilot-initiated departure from runway 30 resulted in a right veer after becoming airborne, followed by an attempted landing that ended with the aircraft impacting terrain. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the forward fuselage, left wing, and empennage.
Pilot Report
According to the pilot, prior to departure he observed the windsock indicating winds from approximately 190 degrees at 15 knots, gusting to 19 knots. He believed he would experience a left front quartering wind. In retrospect, he stated that this was not the case. The pilot initiated the departure with ten degrees of flaps and did not use the additional runway available in the displaced threshold.
When the airplane became airborne, it veered to the right. The pilot attempted to accelerate at a low altitude but was unsuccessful. He then elected to land the airplane. The aircraft subsequently impacted terrain.
Engine and Damage Assessment
The pilot reported that the engine was running normally throughout the accident sequence. The accident resulted in substantial damage to the forward fuselage, left wing, and empennage of the aircraft. No other details were provided regarding the aircraft type, registration, or number of occupants.
