Accident Summary
Upon arrival at the destination airport, the pilot checked for a windsock but did not see one. He decided to use Runway 32, having used Runway 33 at his departure airport approximately 50 miles away. During the landing, he realized he was landing with a tailwind and could not slow the airplane sufficiently. He then decided to execute a go-around.
Pilot Actions
The pilot attempted to retract 20 degrees of flaps, but the flap handle moved to the full up (retracted) position. Consequently, the airplane began to sink, and as trees became closer, the pilot stalled the airplane.
Pilot Statement
The pilot stated that there was no mechanical malfunction. He believed the accident could have been prevented if he had better preparation of performance on a hot, humid day.
