What happened
The flight began with what was described as a normal takeoff roll. After becoming airborne, the pilot initiated a turn back toward the airport environment. Shortly after this maneuver, the aircraft lost altitude and descended rapidly. It impacted agricultural or construction machinery located at the far end of the 2,600-foot airstrip.
The investigation
Investigators reviewed performance data for the specific aircraft type to determine if mechanical failure or overload contributed to the accident. The analysis confirmed that the airplane was not overloaded beyond its gross weight limits. Additionally, atmospheric conditions were evaluated, and calculations showed that the required takeoff ground roll distance was only 750 feet, well within the available runway length.
Findings
No discrepancies were found in the engine or airframe upon inspection. The primary issue appears to be related to the aircraft's ability to maintain altitude during the low-speed turn immediately after departure. The pilot failed to ensure adequate airspeed and climb performance before initiating the maneuver, leading to an inability to clear obstacles. This resulted in a collision with stationary equipment on the ground.
