What happened
The flight was conducting a takeoff operation from a gravel runway surface. According to the pilot's account, there was a slight crosswind component coming from the right side during the roll.
As the airplane lifted off the ground, it began to drift toward the left side of the runway environment. The pilot attempted to correct this deviation by applying a right bank. However, the maneuver resulted in the left wing and the left main landing gear striking trees located adjacent to the runway. The aircraft subsequently veered further to the left and came to a final stop within the tree line next to the departure area.
The investigation
The examination focused on the immediate circumstances of the departure. No mechanical failures were identified as contributing factors. The primary issue was the loss of directional control during the initial climb phase due to wind conditions and pilot correction inputs.
Findings
Contributing factors included the gravel runway surface, which may have affected traction or handling characteristics, and the crosswind component from the right. The pilot's attempt to correct the left drift resulted in an unintended impact with obstacles.
