Background
A recently-certificated private pilot and the passenger, who was also the owner of the airplane, were en route to Alaska for a hunting and fishing trip. During their journey, they made a fueling stop, where the pilot topped off the fuel tanks.
Takeoff
After fueling, the pilot taxied the airplane to runway 29. While holding for departure, another airplane landed into the wind on the opposite runway, runway 07. The pilot then took off on runway 29 with a reported wind from 070 degrees at 18 knots, gusting to 24 knots, resulting in a direct tailwind component. The density altitude at the time was calculated to be 5,300 feet.
The takeoff roll was described as 'long,' and as the airplane came within 500 feet of the departure end of the 4,380-foot runway, a 'very steep' angle of climb was established. The airplane then cleared the ground and the commercial buildings off the airport.
Accident Sequence
After clearing the commercial buildings, the pilot lost control of the airplane. The airplane subsequently impacted a single-story residence. At the time of takeoff, the airplane was calculated to be 118 pounds over its maximum gross weight.
