Accident Overview
Approximately moments after lift-off, the pilot reported that the engine began operating roughly. As the airplane climbed to an altitude of about 20 feet above ground level, the engine lost all power. The aircraft was heading toward a row of trees. To avoid impacting the obstructions, the pilot executed a 90-degree left turn. During the turn, the airplane's airspeed dissipated, and it settled to the ground. The landing gear was broken off during the impact with the terrain.
Pilot Account
The pilot stated that the engine roughness began immediately after departure and that power was completely lost at around 20 feet. The decision to turn left was made to prevent a collision with the tree line. The subsequent loss of airspeed led to a descent and ground contact.
Investigation
During the post-accident investigation, the propeller was replaced. An operational check of the engine was then performed. The engine operated in accordance with the manufacturer's operating specifications, indicating no anomalies were found.
