A student pilot lost control of a helicopter during hover taxi. After abrupt collective input, the aircraft spun and rolled onto its right side upon touchdown. The pilot attributed the event to dynamic rollover.

Incident Sequence

A student pilot was performing a hover taxi from the helipad to the operator's ramp. As the helicopter became light on its skids, the pilot abruptly raised the collective control. This input caused the helicopter to begin a spin to the right. The pilot then applied full left pedal to counteract the spin. In response, the helicopter began spinning to the left. The pilot then fully lowered the collective in an attempt to set the helicopter back down on the pad. When the helicopter touched down, it rolled onto its right side.

Pilot Statement

Following the accident, the student pilot spoke with another pilot at the flight school. During that conversation, the student pilot stated that he had encountered dynamic rollover.
