Incident Overview
A flight conducted for a parachute drop experienced a dual engine failure during descent. After the parachutists exited at 13,000 feet, the pilot initiated a descent. When the aircraft reached 2,300 feet, both engines lost power. The pilot was unable to restart either engine and declared an emergency, maneuvering for a landing on runway 9 at the departure airport. However, the aircraft did not reach the runway; it struck vegetation and the airport perimeter fence before coming to a stop.
Sequence of Events
The flight proceeded normally to the drop altitude. Following the jump, the pilot began a descent. At approximately 2,300 feet, the engines simultaneously ceased producing power. Attempts to restart were unsuccessful. The pilot then directed the aircraft toward the airport and lined up for runway 9. On final approach, the aircraft was too low and collided with vegetation and the airport fence short of the runway.
Post-Accident Examination
A thorough inspection of the aircraft revealed no mechanical malfunctions that could account for the loss of engine power. The fuel system was examined, and no usable fuel was found. The lack of fuel indicates that the engines likely stopped due to fuel exhaustion. The airframe sustained damage from the collision with vegetation and the fence.
