Pilot Report
The pilot reported that the approach to landing was high, prompting a go-around. During the go-around, he applied full engine power, turned off the carburetor heat, and raised the flaps. The engine initially developed enough power to initiate a climb, but the pilot noted that it was running rough. The roughness worsened, and engine power decreased. Subsequently, the airplane could no longer maintain a climb and collided with trees at the departure end of the runway before crashing to the ground.
Postcrash Examination
Following the accident, a postcrash examination of the engine was conducted. No reason for the loss of engine power was found during the examination.
