Flight Details
On November 6, 1996, a pilot initiated a flight to ferry an aircraft to another airport for maintenance. During the initial climb after takeoff, the engine lost power at approximately 300 feet above ground level (AGL). The pilot executed a forced landing, during which the aircraft came to rest in a farm pond.
Post-Accident Examination
An FAA inspector examined the aircraft and found continuity in the engine and flight controls. Fuel was present in both fuel tanks, and no contaminants were detected in the fuel. All fuel lines, oil lines, engine fuel injection lines, exhaust system, and ignition system appeared intact. After the aircraft was recovered from the pond, no anomalies were observed.
Maintenance and Records
The aircraft's last annual inspection was dated March 10, 1987. FAA inspectors noted that the aircraft records could not demonstrate a clear picture of airworthiness directive (AD) completion.
