According to the surviving passenger, the pilot gave no indication of any mechanical issues; the engine sounded normal and there was no ice accumulation on the airplane. As the airplane approached the airport, the pilot stated, "I can see the ground" and gave a thumbs-up signal. Immediately after, the front right seat passenger exclaimed, "Look out for the trees, pull up, pull up!"
Collision
No power application was noted following the passenger's warning. Shortly thereafter, the airplane collided with trees.
