Incident Summary

During cruise flight, the pilot observed a drop in manifold pressure and decided to divert to an alternate airport. The before-landing checks were completed, and the pilot noted that the final approach airspeed was higher than desired. Attempts to reduce power were unsuccessful.

Pilot's Account

The airplane touched down at an elevated speed and subsequently became airborne again, but lacked sufficient power to climb. The pilot executed a steep left turn followed by a steep right turn. During these maneuvers, the airplane entered an aerodynamic stall and collided with the terrain.

Examination Findings

Post-incident examination of the throttle cable revealed that it had become disconnected from the engine. This disconnection likely prevented the pilot from reducing engine power as intended during the approach and go-around phases.
