Accident Details
The pilot initiated the takeoff roll on an uneven, rough turf runway with a crosswind from the left. The airplane remained aligned with the intended takeoff direction for approximately 528 feet before it veered off the left side of the runway. After departing the runway surface, the airplane traveled an additional 776 feet and collided with shrubs.
Pilot Actions
According to the pilot, he lifted the nosewheel to protect it from the rough runway surface. When the airplane initially drifted to the right, he applied left rudder and left main wheel brake as a correction. Subsequently, the airplane veered off the left side of the runway.

The pilot reported that there was no mechanical malfunction with the airplane or the engine.

The reported winds at the time of the accident were from 270 degrees at 16 knots, with gusts to 23 knots.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), there was a substantial dip in the turf runway near the point where the airplane began to drift to the left.
