Event Summary
As the aircraft climbed through 12,000 feet, the right engine experienced a power loss. The loss was confirmed by low manifold and fuel pressures. Activating the boost pump increased fuel flow but did not restore power. With the left engine at full power and the propeller set to fine pitch, the aircraft was unable to maintain altitude.
Pilot Actions
The pilot chose not to feather the right propeller, as this would cause the aircraft to descend to the single-engine service ceiling. The right engine manifold pressure indicated some power was being developed, so the pilot opted for a forced landing in an open meadow.
Accident Sequence
During the forced landing, the aircraft slid across the ground, struck a large rock, and spun around. Subsequently, a fire erupted.
Investigation Findings
