Accident Details
The incident occurred on a solo round-robin flight originating from Rockwall Municipal Airport. The student pilot, who had logged 63 hours of flight time, was endorsed to practice takeoffs and landings at Mesquite, Texas. On the return leg to Rockwall Airport, she attempted to land on runway 16.
Loss of Control
During the final approach, the student pilot reported getting too low and encountering turbulence emanating from hangars located at the northwest corner of the airport. This led to a loss of control during the landing roll.
Aborted Landing Attempt
In response, the student pilot applied full power in an attempt to abort the landing. The airplane became airborne at a speed of 40 to 50 knots. However, the main landing gear subsequently struck the airport's perimeter fence.
Final Resting Position
Following the impact with the fence, the airplane nosed over and came to rest in an inverted position. The operator reported these details.
