Accident Description
On final approach to runway 14, while at an altitude of approximately 20 feet above ground level (AGL), the airplane began to sink rapidly. It subsequently impacted below the top of a 15-foot tall embankment, coming to rest short of the approach end of the runway.
Witness and Pilot Statements
A witness reported that hangars located along the runway and large trees situated on short final to runway 14 "sometimes create turbulence and windshear in this area when winds are strong." However, the pilot stated that weather was "not a factor" in the accident.
Investigation Details
The exact cause of the rapid sink and subsequent impact has not been determined. The investigation is ongoing to identify any mechanical or operational factors that may have contributed to the event.
