Narrative
A pilot reported losing spatial orientation shortly after takeoff while flying in foggy conditions. The aircraft struck powerlines located southwest of the departure end of the airport. The powerlines were situated slightly below the elevation of the airstrip. Following the powerline strike, the airplane traveled approximately three-quarters of a mile before impacting the terrain. It then continued for roughly 900 feet until it contacted trees, where it came to rest and was destroyed by a post-impact fire.
Weather Briefing
Prior to departure, the pilot received a weather briefing. However, during that briefing, he did not request information about current local weather conditions, nor was such information issued to him.
Aircraft Damage
The aircraft sustained substantial damage and was destroyed by fire after the sequence of events.
