A pilot encountered strong windshear on short final approach, resulting in a rapid loss of airspeed and altitude during an attempted go-around before colliding with trees.

What happened

The pilot reported that he was conducting a short final approach to a remote airstrip when the aircraft encountered significant weather-related turbulence. At approximately 20 feet above the ground, the airplane was subjected to strong windshear. In response to the deteriorating flight conditions, the pilot applied full power in an attempt to execute a go-around maneuver.

Despite the application of maximum thrust, the airspeed dropped rapidly due to the wind conditions. The aircraft subsequently lost altitude and was pushed laterally to the left by the wind shear forces. Unable to regain control or altitude, the airplane collided with trees located along the left side of the runway.

Probable cause

The pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed during a windshear encounter while attempting a go-around, which resulted in an inadvertent stall and loss of control.
