Incident Overview
The pilot of an aircraft reported that after an uneventful landing on runway 22 at Essex County Airport, the brakes locked and the airplane ground looped. The incident occurred during daylight hours with variable winds reported at six knots.
Observations
A tower controller observed the aircraft land on runway 22 and subsequently veer off the runway into the grass on the north side of taxiway Bravo. The taxiway is located approximately 1,500 feet upwind of the runway threshold and serves as the first available exit to the midfield ramp area.
Post-Accident Handling
A maintenance representative from a local fixed base operator (FBO) recalled that several of his employees freely rolled the aircraft on its main wheels off the runway to the FBO's ramp after the accident. The aircraft was later transported via flatbed truck from Essex County Airport to Sky Acres Airport in Lagrangeville, New York, for repairs.
Repair Details
The facility conducting the repairs reported that the post-accident work included servicing of the brakes, but no other corrective repair work was performed on the aircraft's Cleveland brakes.
